Residency Medical Oncology Program rotation will be 24 month and involve rotation every 3 month in lung cancer and sarcoma, breast cancer, GI, head & neck cancer, GU and Gynae oncology cancer, hemato-oncology and lymphoma, radiation oncology ( 2 month ) and 2 month in palliative care as well.
Program will help fellows to be exposed to different modalities of cancer site specific management including surgical, medical chemotherapeutic agents and radiation oncology. Supportive care for all treatment related side effects like nausea and vomting, febrile neutropenia, anemia, mucositis and extravastion.
Program will also help fellows to assess and deal with oncologic emergencies like (spinal cord compression, pericardial tamponade, electrolyte imbalance). Nutritional support including enteral and parenteral feeding.
Fellows will also exposed to end-of-life care issues like pain management. Training program will enhance their communication skills with cancer patient and their families and how to break bad news
In each rotation candidates are encouraged to attend weekly outpatient clinic, Day Chemotherapy care for patients on chemotherapy and manage the complications of chemotherapy, Multidisciplinary meetings, Tumor boards, Grand round, Mortality and morbidity meeting and Medical library.
In addition to patient care, fellows are encouraged for Self-education by reading current textbooks and relevant scientific literature, attending Journal Club and Medical Oncology Meetings, Regional cancer center meeting plus Core curriculum lectures
Research is one of the objectives of the training program. Fellow will learn how to put research questions and how to use different research methods.
Educational framework for the training of fellows in medical oncology include studying basic scientific principles such as cancer biology, tumour pathology & staging procedures, laboratory medicine, tumor immunology, etiology, epidemiology, screening, and cancer prevention. clinical research including statistics.
